Brian Duffy was a famous photographer, popular in the 60’s and 70’s. He was born in 1933 in London but died when he was 77 in 2010. During his lifetime he married June Duffy and had four children. In 1950, Duffy attended St. Marten’s school for Art for dress design. After he graduated he worked in fashion. He was even offered a job for Balenciaga in Paris but he turned it down. After 5 years, he saw some contact sheets for photographers and they caught his attention. That was when he grasped the idea of photography for his career. Duffy then searched to pursue as a photographer’s assistant. It took a few tries to find a job but he was eventually successful. He had he first photographic commission for The Sunday Times while working under Adrien Flowers. The late 50’s through the 70’s were when Brian Duffy broke out as a well-known photographer and created his own studio called Deighton Duffy. But what really set his career was when he photographed David Bowie’s album cover in 1973. He continued to do and love photography until 1979 when he attempted to burn his portraits but was stopped. Sadly, Brian Duffy passed away on May 31st, 2010 from pulmonary fibrosis. Here are some of his photos:
